Club Championship 15th July 2012

The second event of the Newbury AA Club Championship took place on Speen Moors on 15th July. The river was difficult to fish following all the rain and produced only small weights. A field of 16 battled it out, and the winners were on the high peg numbers. Mat Tarrant ran away with it, most of the anglers not even getting a pound of fish. The result is:

Mat Tarrant with 10lb 9oz from peg 39 with 6 chub and 3 dace on the stick

Martin Pallet with 5lb 13oz from peg 41, mostly perch

Ade Ager with 3lb 12oz from peg 45

Summer Pairs Match 8th July 2012

The summer pairs match took place on Willows and Alders, and resulted for the second win on the trot for husband and wife team Linda and Martin Pallett. With Alders recently producing low weights and Willows producing lots of carp, Martin got the job of taking six carp for 47lb 5oz, Linda catching a decent 3lb 6oz of perch from Alders, for 4 points and the win. M. Burrows and D. Smith made 7 points for second place, beating third place pair S. Myers and B. Cripps on weight, also with 7 points.

Overall winner on Willows was Adam Durnford with an arm-aching 82lb from peg 48. Overall winner on Alders was Mervyn Burrows with 12lb 14oz of skimmers from peg 10. Good to see the Alders weights coming up a bit.

Twilight Match 3rd July 2012

The twilight series had the fifth match on the canal at Avington and this was a really close contest, with only one and a half pounds separating the top 5. The series is now close to an exciting finish, with five anglers still in the running, all of whom have a 0 score to drop (the best 5 results count). It all hangs on the last match at the difficult Alders on 10th July, and that will sort out the best anglers. We will know soon enough! The result at Avington was:

Over 60's match 4th July 2012

Justa few days after the rover match, the Over 60's visited Dobsons also hoping to get amongst the big weights. On this occasion only Steve Myers did, beating a large field by a big margin to make it 2 out of 2 wins in this series. Their next outing is on Willows on the 18th July.The result was:

Richard Wiggins 4-2-0 peg 13

Dave Smith 3-2-0 peg 37

Rover Match 1st July 2012

The Rover series visited Dobsons for the second match in the series, looking to get amongst the bream and some good weights. The lake fished well and the top six were all in double figures, only 4lb separating the top 4 weights. The result was:
